The role:

You will be the initial point of contact for tax queries from our clients, addressing their queries related to tax structures, setups, and more.

This role requires a proactive approach to client service, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a strong understanding of tax legislation.  The ability to research a topic using publicly available materials, e.g. HMRC Manuals, and subscription services, e.g. Croner-i and Indicator libraries, and draw conclusions from this is imperative.

Managing workload, stakeholders and deadlines will be a key part of the role.

The responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary contact for client queries, such as regarding tax structures, property transfers, SDLT implications, extracting profits, share buybacks, etc.
  • Review self-assessment tax returns prepared by junior staff and other team members, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Lead training and knowledge-sharing sessions to keep the team updated on tax changes, implications and opportunities
  • Attend calls and meetings with key clients to identify tax-saving opportunities and provide strategic advice
  • Manage and deliver specialised projects such as setting up family investment companies, linked investment companies, obtaining EIS status and more
  • Manage and deliver intricate projects like demergers, incorporations, trust formations and inheritance tax planning, working with contractors and white-label service providers
  • Employ a solutions-based approach to meet clients’ objectives effectively and efficiently
  • Ensure clients operate in the most tax-efficient manner, focusing on the optimization of their company structures and operations
  • Develop and maintain expertise in the property sector’s specific tax rules, including VAT rates, group asset transfers, and distinctions between trading vs. investment statuses.

  • CTA / ACA / ACCA qualified (if ACA / ACCA or no qualification then demonstrable experience with tax matters will be required)
  • Proven experience in a tax advisory role within a UK accountancy practice, with a strong focus on client consultation and tax planning
  • Experience in managing tax-oriented projects
  • Liaising with external partners on complex transactions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of maintaining positive client relationships and leading team initiatives
  • Knowledge of the property sector’s specific tax rules and regulations is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of implications and practicalities of setting up in Dubai is highly desirable
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong technical skills and understanding of accounting and tax rules
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a solutions-oriented mindset
  • Able to adapt to different software and technology
  • Accountancy practice experience (7+ years)
